Andy Murray will be absent from the Monte Carlo and BMW Open tournaments due to an ankle injury sustained at the Miami Open

Andy Murray’s recent ankle injury has cast doubt on his upcoming appearances at the Monte Carlo Masters and the BMW Open in Munich, events scheduled for April 7-14 and April 15-21 respectively. The 36-year-old tennis star’s management team has highlighted the uncertainty surrounding his recovery, stating, “At this stage, it is still not clear how long Andy will be out of action.” Murray’s determination to return to the court “as soon as possible” is notable, although the timeline for his comeback remains uncertain given the nature of his injury.

A statement from the two-time Wimbledon champion’s management team on Friday read: “Following consultation with his team and medical experts, Andy Murray has taken the decision to miss the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters and BMW Open Munich.

“At this stage, it is still not clear how long Andy will be out of action, and he is continuing to review options with his medical team.

“Obviously this is very disappointing news for Andy and he has reiterated his desire to get back on court as soon as possible.

“He thanks all his fans for their kind messages of support and will continue to update everybody as the situation evolves.”

The incident occurred during his third-round match against Tomas Machac at the Miami Open, where Murray experienced significant discomfort and subsequently revealed on social media that he had sustained serious damage to the ligaments in his left ankle. Despite receiving on-court treatment to complete the match, the extent of the injury raises concerns about his participation in the upcoming grass-court season and his final appearance at Wimbledon, which had been earmarked as his farewell tournament before retirement. Additionally, his aspirations for a final Olympic appearance in Paris may be contingent on the necessity of surgical intervention or alternative non-surgical measures for his recovery.

For the three-time grand-slam champion, this setback comes at a particularly challenging time, especially considering his recent success in Miami, where he secured consecutive victories for the first time this year. The uncertain nature of his recovery, coupled with the proximity of key events in the tennis calendar, adds complexity to Murray’s journey back to competitive play. As the tennis community awaits further updates on his condition, the resilience and determination that have defined Murray’s career remain central to his pursuit of returning to the sport he has graced for so many years.
