UEFA has finally compensated Liverpool fans for the chaos during the 2022 Champions League final.

Liverpool supporters have finally received compensation payments from UEFA for injuries suffered before the 2022 Champions League final in Paris. UEFA and Liverpool supporters have come to a compensation agreement in regards to injuries suffered ahead of the 2022 Champions League final in Paris. There was chaos before kick-off with a report finding Liverpool fans were robbed and tear-gassed by police in violent scenes that saw the game delayed by over 30 minutes. Fans experienced physical and psychological trauma due to the events that took place which led to legal action being launched in 2022. An agreement to compensate those affected has now finally been reached.

A statement read: “UEFA has today concluded a full and final settlement with those Liverpool fans represented by Pogust Goodhead and Bingham Long and who have raised personal injury claims in respect of their experiences at the 2022 UEFA Champions League Final that took place in Paris.

“The parties have agreed the terms of this statement but that the terms of the settlement will otherwise remain confidential. The settlement agreement has been made without any admission of liability. UEFA is pleased to have reached a common position which it is hoped provides closure for the fans. UEFA will be making no further comment in relation to the same.”

Liverpool supporters were represented by law firms Pogust Goodhead and Bingham Long. Managing Director Gerard Long said: “We are delighted to have reached an agreement for compensation for supporters of Liverpool Football Club that were impacted by the events surrounding the Champions League Final in May 2022. As a local firm, it was important for us to be able to report back to them that we had resolved the matter without lengthy legal proceedings, and they will receive some compensation.

“I would like to make clear that no deduction will be taken from my clients’ damages and that they will therefore receive 100% of the compensation received as part of this settlement.”

Liverpool fans were initially blamed for the chaos before an independent report found that the fault lay with UEFA and the French authorities. Europe’s governing body subsequently issued refunds for Reds supporters who attended the game. This settlement represents an important step towards recognizing and addressing the impact that the events surrounding the 2022 Champions League final in Paris had on the Liverpool supporters. It is hoped that this agreement brings a sense of closure and justice to those affected.
