Breaking: Vincent Kompany is set to join Bayern Munich from Burnley in an agreement worth around £10m

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has agreed a deal in principle to become the new Bayern Munich coach, bringing with him his valuable experience in both playing and managing top-tier football. The German club decisively moved for Kompany after facing several rejections in their search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel, ultimately securing a promising agreement.

It is understood that Kompany has reached a mutually beneficial deal until 2027, with Bayern demonstrating their confidence in his leadership by agreeing to pay Burnley £10.2m in compensation. Notably, Craig Bellamy, Kompany’s trusted assistant at Burnley, will not be joining the Belgian in his journey to the Allianz Arena. However, the addition of Floribert Ngalula and Bram Geers to his backroom staff illustrates Kompany’s commitment to assembling a strong support team at Bayern.

Prior to securing Kompany as their new coach, Bayern had pursued various other experienced football figures, including Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, former manager Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria coach Ralf Rangnick, all of whom declined the opportunity. Tuchel, who previously held talks with Bayern earlier in May about the possibility of staying at the club, ultimately parted ways with the team after failing to reach an agreement.

Bayern’s emphasis on appointing a German-speaking coach found a perfect match in Kompany, who notably played for Hamburg for two years during his distinguished playing career. The 38-year-old has gradually established a commendable reputation as a manager, particularly during his tenure at Anderlecht and Burnley. Once a four-time Premier League winner as a player with Manchester City, Kompany transitioned to become Anderlecht head coach in 2020, following a successful spell as a player-manager, before embarking on his journey to Turf Moor.

Notably, the Belgian tactician led Burnley to the Championship title in 2023; however, the club faced challenges and was subsequently relegated from the Premier League this season, providing a fresh motivation for Kompany as he prepares to take on the formidable role at Bayern Munich.
