Xander Schauffele made major history with a dramatic win over Bryson DeChambeau at Valhalla in the PGA Championship

Xander Schauffele clinched his first major victory in dramatic fashion at the PGA Championship, making golfing history with a thrilling one-shot win. The final day at Valhalla saw Schauffele share the lead with Collin Morikawa before heading into the back-nine two strokes ahead. Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland both roared into contention, keeping the competition intense. Hovland was within striking distance of the lead until a three-putt bogey at the final hole, while DeChambeau produced a brilliant birdie to catch up with Schauffele at 20 under.

In the end, Schauffele sealed the win with a birdie at the par-five last hole, closing with a final-round 65 to finish on a record-breaking 21 under – the lowest 72-hole score in men’s major history. This impressive performance secured Schauffele a wire-to-wire victory, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Hovland secured third place, and Justin Rose finished in a tie for sixth with Shane Lowry. The world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, concluded an eventful week in tied-eighth, while Rory McIlroy claimed a share of 12th after carding a four-under 67.

The final round featured intense competition, as the overnight co-leaders found themselves in a three-way tie at the top. Although Sahith Theegala’s remarkable 55-foot putt at the first momentarily leveled the playing field, Schauffele quickly regained the lead with a 25-foot birdie to set the stage for an exhilarating finish.

DeChambeau and Hovland continued to apply pressure with impressive performances, keeping the outcome uncertain until the very end. Schauffele’s resilience shone through as he navigated challenges and capitalized on critical opportunities, ultimately securing his historic victory.

Scottie Scheffler mounted a remarkable comeback, carding seven birdies in a 10-hole stretch after a challenging round on Saturday. His outstanding performance placed him eight strokes back, alongside Billy Horschel, Justin Thomas, and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy faced a few setbacks, including finding water twice in a three-hole stretch during his four-under 67. Despite the challenges, McIlroy’s talent and determination were evident as he secured a share of 12th place. Defending champion Brooks Koepka concluded his title defense on nine under, finishing in a tie for 26th following a final-round 66, showcasing the depth of competition at the PGA Championship.
