McLaren has unveiled the new livery for their F1 car for 2024, and they are making a new contract for Lando Norris a high priority.

Zak Brown on McLaren’s Future and Lando Norris

In a recent conversation with Sky Sports News, McLaren’s chief executive, Zak Brown, expressed the team’s commitment to securing an extended contract for their star driver Lando Norris. The resurgent British team aims to continue their upward trajectory in the upcoming Formula 1 season and sees tying down Norris as a “high priority”. With the anticipated launch of their new car, the MCL38, on February 14, McLaren is optimistic about the season ahead and sees Norris as a crucial part of their future plans.

Brown emphasized that securing Norris for an extended term is a top priority for McLaren, highlighting their aim to avoid any potential interest from rival teams. With rising talent Oscar Piastri already signed up to 2026, Brown reaffirmed his confidence in their young driver lineup, stating that there is no driver who could make them reconsider their current lineup.

Expressing unwavering support for Norris, Brown declared, “There is no number we’d be interested in trading him for,” underlining the team’s commitment to retaining their prized driver. Despite Norris’s current contract running for two more seasons, Brown has already identified renewing the 24-year-old’s contract as a crucial objective for McLaren, potentially warding off interest from rival teams, including world champions Red Bull.

Amid speculation of potential suitors vying for Norris, Brown confidently stated, “I think we have the best driver line-up in Formula 1,” emphasizing McLaren’s conviction in their drivers and their ambitions for the upcoming season. Norris’s standout performances in the past year, including multiple second-place finishes and consistent strong showings, have cemented his status as one of F1’s top talents, further reinforcing McLaren’s determination to retain him.

While acknowledging the competition from dominant teams like Red Bull, Brown firmly believes that McLaren remains the best home for Norris, reflecting on the driver’s journey with the team since 2017 when he was just 17 years old.

As McLaren continues to push for success in the competitive world of Formula 1, Zak Brown’s comments underscore the team’s steadfast commitment to securing Lando Norris’s future and their aspirations for the upcoming season.
