Borussia Dortmund has re-signed Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund’s re-signing of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on loan until the end of the season marks a significant reunion between the player and the Bundesliga club. Sancho’s return to Dortmund comes after two and a half years with Manchester United, during which he commanded a £73m transfer fee. However, the 23-year-old has been absent from the pitch since August 2023 due to a public fallout with United’s manager, Erik ten Hag.

This homecoming for Sancho carries personal significance, as he expressed his feelings of familiarity and connection upon returning to the Dortmund dressing room. “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like coming home,” he shared with the Dortmund official website. “I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.”

Furthermore, Dortmund’s support for Sancho’s loan is highlighted, with the club set to contribute around €3.5m (£3m) during his stint in Germany, along with potential add-ons of up to €4m (£3.4m) based on their performance in the Champions League, Bundesliga success, and appearances. His representatives also expressed his excitement to return to the pitch, stating that “He’s excited to play and get back to his best,” in a statement to Sky Sports News.

Looking ahead, Sancho’s temporary move to Dortmund presents an opportunity for him to revitalize his performance and showcase his talent on the field. The absence of an option to buy as part of the loan deal underscores the short-term nature of this arrangement, with Sancho’s contract at Old Trafford set to expire in 2026, and United retaining the option to extend for an additional year.

In the context of Sancho’s previous tenure at Dortmund, his impressive record of 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances speaks to his impact on the club. His notable contributions included 16 goals and 20 assists in the season before his transition to the Premier League, reinforcing the anticipation surrounding his return to the Bundesliga.

As he embarks on this new chapter with Borussia Dortmund, Sancho is poised to embrace the familiar environment by sporting the No. 10 shirt and aiming to make a meaningful impact on the pitch.
