Bayern Munich has reached an agreement to sign Tottenham defender Eric Dier.

Bayern Munich has secured a noteworthy deal with Tottenham Hotspur to acquire the services of experienced defender Eric Dier. The agreement entails a substantial fee of £3.4m (€4m), reflecting the fact that Dier is currently within the final six months of his contract with the Premier League club.

Dier, aged 29, has already made his way to Munich and is poised to undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation in preparation for his potential move to the Bundesliga outfit. This significant development comes after Bayern missed out on securing the services of Radu Dragusin, who ultimately opted to join Tottenham Hotspur.

In light of these developments, Bayern’s head coach, Thomas Tuchel, expressed a cautious yet optimistic outlook regarding the impending acquisition of Dier. During a press conference, Tuchel stated, “From experience, we know things can go wrong in the final seconds. He is in Munich, and we are striving to finalize the deal and explore alternative options in the defensive position within our squad. However, I’d prefer to wait until the ink has dried.”

Tuchel also highlighted Dier’s versatility, emphasizing his capabilities in various defensive and midfield roles. “I think that he is more or less a specialist in the central defensive role. He’s played as a holding midfielder in the past. He can play as part of a back four and three at the back, allowing us to free up Leon Goretzka in midfield so he doesn’t have to switch between playing as a No 8 and being deeper,” explained Tuchel.

Dier’s impending move to Bayern marks the conclusion of his notable nine-and-a-half-year tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, having joined the club from Sporting Lisbon in 2014. Throughout his time with the North London club, Dier has amassed an impressive 365 appearances, while also notching 13 goals. Although he has been a consistent figure during the Mauricio Pochettino era, with a preference for operating in midfield, Dier’s playing time has been limited in recent seasons, featuring in just four games since the commencement of the 2023/24 campaign.
