Tottenham Hotspur is poised to secure the signing of the promising 21-year-old defender Radu Dragusin, fending off competition from Bayern Munich. The talented Romania international has made the decision to join Spurs over Bayern, with the North London club reaching an agreement with Genoa for a deal worth £25.9m (€30m), which includes £5.6m (€6m) in add-ons.

Despite this agreement, Bayern Munich attempted to sway Dragusin with a late bid, offering an improved deal worth £26.7m (€31m). However, Dragusin weighed his options and ultimately opted to move to Tottenham. As part of the upcoming steps, Dragusin is scheduled to fly to London for a medical, further solidifying his anticipated move to the Premier League.

Bayern’s unsuccessful pursuit of Dragusin came following reports from Sky in Germany indicating that the German club had already reached an agreement with Tottenham defender Eric Dier. This development placed Dier as Bayern’s primary target, with the 29-year-old being free to engage with foreign clubs as his contract at Spurs is set to expire this summer. Notably, despite these reports, Tottenham had not received any formal approach from Bayern regarding Dier.

On the pitch, Dragusin has been a key figure for Genoa, featuring in every Serie A game this season. His aerial prowess has been particularly impressive, ranking third in the league for winning aerial duels. Additionally, he has demonstrated his defensive capabilities by completing a considerable number of clearances, only second to Cagliari’s Alberto Dossena. Furthermore, Dragusin has shown his attacking threat, ranking ninth in the league for headed shots.

Utilized in a back three system at Genoa, Dragusin’s versatility allows him to operate across the defensive line. Positioned 12th in Serie A, the heatmap analysis indicates his significant involvement in defensive duties within his own penalty box. This move to Tottenham showcases the potential for Dragusin to make a substantial impact in the Premier League, further enhancing the competitive landscape of English football with his arrival.
