Charles Leclerc was in the lead at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, followed by Carlos Sainz in second place. Max Verstappen, the world champion, came in third but will start on the front row due to Sainz’s grid penalty.
Charles Leclerc secured pole position in the Formula 1 race in Las Vegas, leading the way for Ferrari with teammate Carlos Sainz qualifiying in second place.
After a troubled beginning to F1’s comeback to Vegas resulted in significant problems on Thursday, a calm Friday on the impressive track that has brought the sport to the city’s iconic Strip for the first time concluded with Leclerc narrowly beating Sainz by 0.044s.
World champion Max Verstappen finished in third place for Red Bull. However, he will start the race alongside Leclerc on the front row. Sainz, on the other hand, has been controversially penalized with a 10-place grid drop. This penalty was incurred because he exceeded the allowed number of car parts following an incident during the first practice session, which was caused by a faulty water valve cover.
Ferrari was really fast and dominated the session. The battle for the positions after them was very uncertain.
George Russell finished fourth for Mercedes, while his teammate Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez were eliminated in Q2. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were also knocked out in Q1.
Alpine’s Pierre Gasly finished in fifth place, followed by the Williams duo of Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant. Sargeant’s seventh-place finish was the best result of his rookie F1 season.
Valtteri Bottas finished in eighth place for Alfa Romeo, followed by Kevin Magnussen from Haas. Fernando Alonso completed the top 10 for Aston Martin.
