Michael Olise: Crystal Palace winger signs new four-year contract after Chelsea activated £35m release clause

Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise has chosen to stay at the club, despite Chelsea activating his £35m release clause. The talented winger provided 11 assists in the Premier League last season, ensuring Palace retain a key attacking asset following Wilfried Zaha’s departure on a free transfer.

Crystal Palace’s young talent, Michael Olise, has extended his contract with the club, putting an end to the speculation surrounding a potential move to Chelsea. The talented midfielder has signed a new four-year deal with the Eagles, demonstrating his commitment to the team.

The young France U21 player, currently recovering from an injury, had an impressive performance last season with 11 assists and 2 goals for his team, the Eagles.

Speaking on Thursday, Palace manager Roy Hodgson said: “It’s the best possible news we could have. The decision has been his.

“We’ve been concerned, as one is concerned when a club of Chelsea’s stature start to take an interest in a player and suggest that a move to them might be the best bet.

“I’ve always hoped that wouldn’t be the case and that Michael would realise that, at such a young age, his future here is very bright. We can help him move very quickly to another level.

“I had a long chat with him when the subject was first broached but that was in pre-season. I suggested that being at Crystal Palace would be the best option but I also made it clear I wouldn’t put him under unnecessary pressure.

Chelsea has suffered a setback in their transfer plans despite securing signings of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Both players had the chance to join Liverpool but chose Chelsea instead.

Crystal Palace has managed to prevent the departure of another important player following Zaha’s move to Galatasaray.
