Chelsea loan David Datro Fofana to Union Berlin as striker links up with USMNT star Brenden Aaronson in Germany

Chelsea have sent striker David Datro Fofana on loan to Union Berlin for the 2023-24 season. This move will see Fofana join forces with USMNT player Brenden Aaronson.

  • Fofana has been loaned to the Bundesliga after only joining the Blues in January. He has made four appearances for Chelsea so far.

Chelsea striker has officially moved to Union club in search of more playing time. He was brought in for £11m in January but has only made four appearances for Chelsea. Union has also signed Aaronson from Leeds on loan this summer.

Fofana expressed his excitement about being a part of Union, stating that the club has developed strongly in recent years. He acknowledged the club’s efforts in bringing him in and expressed his intention to repay them with good performances.

Union’s managing director of men’s professional football Oliver Ruhnert added: “David’s speed and his flexible offensive qualities are highly interesting for us. We want another goal-scoring player who will give our attacking game additional impetus.”

Fofana, at only 20 years old, is considered a raw talent. He had an impressive performance at Molde, scoring 24 goals in 65 games. However, he has only made three appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea, accumulating just 68 minutes of playtime. Additionally, he has played only 44 minutes in the FA Cup. Fofana will now have the opportunity to showcase his skills in the German top-flight league and prove his worth.

Union Berlin is getting ready for the upcoming Champions League season. They secured a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga last season.
