Van Nistelrooy, the former United striker, has been in talks with Burnley, but the prospect of rejoining Ten Hag’s staff at Old Trafford holds particular appeal to him. United and Ten Hag are making good progress towards finalizing the new contract, and the potential return of Van Nistelrooy to Old Trafford remains contingent on this agreement.
The 47-year-old has been patiently waiting for the right opportunity since resigning as PSV Eindhoven coach. It is reported that both parties are optimistic about striking a deal, and discussions have also encompassed topics such as the manager’s input on transfers and the game model.
The potential addition of Van Nistelrooy to the coaching staff leaves questions about the future of Ten Hag’s forward coach Benni McCarthy, who is currently out of contract, as well as other figures such as Darren Fletcher.
