Edin Terzic has departed from his role as head coach of Borussia Dortmund, as reported by Sky in Germany. Despite guiding the club to the Champions League final during this season, Terzic submitted his resignation on Wednesday night and subsequently met with the club’s upper management on Thursday morning. According to Sky in Germany, he left the meeting just under an hour ago through a back entrance at the club offices.

In a statement, Terzic expressed the difficulty of his decision and conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead Borussia Dortmund. “It is incredibly painful for me to say this to all Black & Yellow fans, but today I am parting company with Borussia Dortmund,” he said. “It was a huge honour to win the DFB Cup with BVB and to lead this fantastic club to the Champions League final.”

Reflecting on his tenure, Terzic mentioned his desire for the club’s new era to commence with a new individual at the helm. “After the game at Wembley, I asked for a meeting with the club’s senior management team, because after ten years at BVB – including five on the coaching staff and two and a half as head coach – I feel that the club’s new era should begin with a new man on the touchline.”

Acknowledging the tough decision process preceding his resignation, Terzic stated, “Everyone close to me knows that this has been a very difficult decision for me to take over the last few weeks, but after intensive discussions my fundamental feeling has not changed. I wish Borussia Dortmund all the best, and this isn’t goodbye – we’ll see you soon!”

Terzic’s journey with Borussia Dortmund encompassed two periods of leadership, initially serving as an interim coach at the end of the 2020-21 season before returning as the permanent head coach for the 2022-23 season.
